Dialogue OpportunitiesThe 'Marin' dialogue group is open to new people. The focus
is on looking at 'collective thought'. They have been meeting
for almost 7 years with groups ranging from a half-dozen to thirty.
Our current pattern is weekly--Friday evenings for two hours,
in San Rafael. The convener is Paul Hannigan (415-967-2071).
The group is serious and always tender about tire-kickers - people
not sure if they are interested in sustaining the experiment.
We ask that those interested in coming read some of D. Bohm's
ideas about Dialogue (the new version of On Dialogue
by David Bohm, (Routledge, 1997) (ed. L. Nichol) is excellent.
The introduction by Lee Nichol is especially useful to put into
perspective the wide range of group activities that practitioners
of 'dialogue' may be undertaking. It includes 6 additional essays
in addition to "On Dialogue," which was the booklet
put out by David Bohm Seminars, Ojai, CA.
This group has a core of about 12 members interested in Dialogue
as an exploration of thought arising -- what Bohm calls proprioception
-- and the deep examination of assumptions. There isn't much attention
to applications, social problems, the news, etc.
There is a group that meets once a month in Los Altos focused on questions of Sustainability. The contact is Steven Phillips (stevenph@ix.netcom.com). This group has a long history, although they have had quiescent periods. It began as a chapter activity of the World Business Academy.
The Institute of Noetic Sciences
(IONS) supported "A Day of Dialogue" as created and
designed by the Center for
Dialogic Communication (a non-profit). The Institute may know
of groups that have continued to meet. There were over 400 packets
of information sent out by IONS for that day.
